Library
The School Library of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Golaghat caters to the information needs of 249 students and 14 staff members of the Vidyalaya. With a collection of 2000 judiciously selected books, 22 periodicals and Educational Multimedia the library complement the teaching learning process inspiring the students to dream high. LIBRARY RULES

The library is open every school day from 08:00 a.m. to 02:10 p.m.
|
|
|
Every class from I-VIII is allotted two library periods per week. The students can use the library, read newspapers and magazines, consult reference books and issue the books during their library periods. The books can be returned to the library at any time. Besides the students may utilize the library during their free time provided no other class is having a library period at that time. |
|
|
Normally one book will be issued to a student for a period of 14 days. An overdue charge of Rs. 1/- per day will be charged in case of willful delay. Staff members can have a maximum of 5 books for a period of 14 days. |
|
|
Reference books like encyclopedias and dictionaries will not be issued. These can be consulted in the library during the library periods. However, for the purpose project work and special assignments the students may get these books issued on request from the teacher concerned. |
|
|
Latest issues of the magazines will not be issued. The old issued of magazines and periodicals can be issued. |
|
|
The primary section from Class 1-5 is having class libraries. The class teachers will be provided with enough number books as per the level which may be utilized during the library periods. Magazines for the primary section are separately provided. |
|
|
Regular circulation of books is provided for classes VI and above. Generally the circulation is done during the library periods, but in order to encourage better and more utilisation of library resources the circulation is done on free periods of the library. |
|
|
A Teacher’s corner is formed for giving ample seating to teachers for reference. |
|
|
Two library periods are there for every class starting from I to VIII. During library periods students can issue and return the books. The students are encouraged to maintain their reading lists and to submit book reviews of the books they have read. |
|
|
Class libraries are functioning from I to V. The teachers in charges of the respective classes select books from the library according to the academic standard and reading habit of the students. About 50-60 books are provided for each class and the teacher concerned will distribute the books to the students during library periods. The books can be changed from the main library from time to time. |
|
|
Previous Question papers of CBSE are kept in the library. Sample question papers and question banks are also procured for reference of the teachers and students. |
|
|
The library notice board gives information regarding new books added to the library, book of the week, student book review, career, higher education and competition related information. A Bulletin board is displayed in the library provide information and instructions. |
|
|
The new arrivals list is displayed in the notice board. The new books are also displayed on New Additions display rack. The book jackets are also prominently displayed in the library. |
|
|
Good book reviews by the students and book review columns published on the newspapers are displayed. It gives a chance to the readers to understand the books. |
Career/Higher Education Alerts

|
A section of the notice board is utilized for alerts on higher education and career. Information brochures of various academic institutions, advertisements etc are displayed here. |
|
|
A list of new articles appeared in the magazines/periodicals and which are relevant to the students are displayed to promote the reading by students. |
|
|
There is a good collection of reference books in the library in different subject areas. These books are not issued and allowed to read only in the library. These include; |

|
The library organizes the Scholastic Book Club in the Vidyalaya. The library also acts as a facilitating centre for “Library Post” service by Army Post Office providing quality books at discounted rates to our students. |
|
|
To promote reading habit and library use, competitions such as surprise library quiz, book quiz, reading sessions, designing of book jackets, etc are taken place. Prizes are given to three best readers taking into consideration the overall use of library resources by the students. Every session, best library users are selected from each section and Reading Achievement Certificates are issued. |

The committee meets regularly to discuss and decide the matters pertaining to providing better and effective library services to the staff and students of the Vidyalaya.
